Weekly Wine Pick: Broadbent Vinho Verde
Summer, summer, summer wine. Refreshing, a little effervescent, spritzy and crisp. Something you’ll want to order by the case and keep cool for impromptu barbecues and neighborhood swim parties. Broadbent Vinho Verde, developed by British wine author, Michael Broadbent, and his son Batholomew, a wine lecturer, is a reliable people pleaser that can be found for less than $10.
I’m a little late with this post, it’s coming on Saturday instead of Friday because ironically we were at a wine tasting event and I couldn’t get to my computer. After posting a photo of the Broadbent Vinho Verde on Instagram and Facebook yesterday, a few of you had a “hashtag duh” response to the recommendation. You beat me, people! I’d been staring at the colorful label for years, but hadn’t taken home a bottle. I may have tried it somewhere along the way, but didn’t realize it was such a steal. I mean, seriously, for $7.89 at Central Market in Houston you can take home a bottle of this spectacular wine. And if you buy 6 you’ll get 10% more off. Score!
Here’s the small world part of the story. It ends up that a friend of a friend is the director of marketing for Broadbent. They went to Ole Miss together and were sorority sisters. And she helped design the eye catching label as well. So there you have it, people. The world is small, the wine is good and the days are about to get longer. So turn on some backyard tunes, pour a cold glass and put your feet up.
