Gadgets, Tools and Kitchen Finds
- I love baking cookies, pizza and even homemade dog treats, and sharing with friends and my puppy. I’ve been using my Joseph Joseph Adjustable Rolling pin on repeat. It takes the guess work out of preparing the thickness of your dough. It comes with 4 disks that can be adjusted to achieve your desired dough height. (1/16”, 1/6”, 1/4” and 3/8”). Even Marcia, the gadget purist, ordered one when I told her about it! – Melissa
- Another favorite baking tool of mine is the Mrs. Fields Scoop N Cut Cookie Tool. This cookie dough scoop bakes uniform size cookies every time. It comes with two sizes and a center bar that cuts slice-and-bake dough perfectly. I even use it for meatballs, ice cream and melon balls. Happy scooping! – Melissa
- A few years ago my friend Nancy Jane gave our friends the Silpat Non Stick Silicone Baking Mat. I’d seen it in stores, but never thought it was something I needed, well wrong I was. It’s best used for cookies, especially cut-outs. The silpat also comes in 8″ and 9″ cake rounds and with the circles imprinted for macaroon making. You can find at www.amazon.com, www.williamssonoma.com and www.bedbathandbeyond.com. – Melissa
- Since we’re on the subject of cooking tools, I saw this sizzle platter in a photo from my Insta friend Alexandra Cooks. It’s an inexpensive aluminum pan that restaurant line cooks use to heat or roast smaller portions of veggies, nuts or meat. It’s cute too. –Marcia
- I’m a big fan of OXO products (please sponsor a post, people!). I use OXO measuring cups in almost every cooking class, the slanted ones with the measurements you can see from above. This itty bitty one is perfect for small measurements of liquids. I just discovered their silicone measuring cups, which are amazing for pouring liquid. You can squeeze them while pouring and you won’t lose a drop of stock or oil. – Marcia
- Bonus love! Lest you think we’re all about kitchen products today, this Food52 post about juicing a lemon without cutting it definitely stopped me in my tracks. –Marcia
