Super Easy Planter’s Punch
On a recent trip to Round Hill Resort in Jamaica, in the late afternoons we made the trek from beach to thatched-roof pool bar for planter’s punch. I’m not usually a rum fan, or much of a hard alcohol fan, but this fruity and punchy cocktail was the perfect warm weather refreshment. Take me back!
Simple Ingredients
To make a batch at home, use fresh-squeezed or good-quality grapefruit juice and pineapple juice. A dash of angostura bitters or grenadine on top adds a punch of color and a slightly bitter note, but it’s completely optional. Dark Jamaican rum and some steel drums playing in the background are mandatory, of course.
Variations
The pineapple juice is pretty mandatory, but try substituting the grapefruit juice with fresh-squeezed orange juice, passionfruit or guava juice. I also tasted a batch topped with Topo Chico, but I prefer it without. If you’re not a rum fan, this would be delicious with vodka or silver tequila.
