Strawberry Basil Smash
Make me a strawberry basil smash, just in time for warmer and longer days. A smash is my kind of cocktail. Fresh, seasonal fruit. Tender herbs and a splash of spirits––in this case, bourbon or whiskey. Top it off with something bubbly, like ginger beer or club soda. A squeeze of fresh lemon juice wakes it up. It’s a refresher, it’s not fussy and it’s full of flavor.
What’s a smash, you say? It’s a seasonal cocktail with a spirit base that usually contains fruit and herbs. It can basically be a smash-up of whatever you’d like! If you don’t have basil, use mint or thyme. Don’t have strawberries, use blackberries or any soft fruit in season.
To mix this up, I use my cocktail shaker and strain the contents into an ice-filled glass. If you have fancy ice molds, even better. I use my freezer’s finest. Smash it up friends, and enjoy the weekend!
