Matcha is like warm green tea ice cream in a cozy mug. I’ve heard about matcha for so long, and strolled by matcha cafés popping up in New York and L.A., but I had yet to try the green stuff until last week. For something so full of antioxidants, Vitamin C and L-theanine, it’s darn delicious.
Granted, I used my homemade vanilla almond milk (which makes almost anything delicious) and a glug of organic agave when I mixed it all together. The deep flavor of the powdered green tea and the creamy, nutty flavor of the almond milk make for an elevated afternoon pick-me-up.
If you want to try organic and ceremonial grade green tea powder, try the Teami matcha from Switch2Pure. This is not a sponsored post, but Switch2Pure is extending a limited time 20% discount with the code S2PWellness at checkout.
Supposedly, samurais used matcha to calm down and stay focused. Matcha might just be the miracle I need to get me through the last pages of my cookbook proposal. Bring on the calm focus; I will be channeling my inner samurai.
Matcha Green Tea Latté
Ingredients
- 1 teaspoon matcha powder
- 3 ounces hot water
- 1/2 cup milk I prefer homemade almond milk, but you can use regular milk or cashew milk as well
- 1 tablespoon organic agave or raw honey
Instructions
- Sift the matcha powder into a tea cup. Add the hot water and whisk, either with a bamboo whisk (called a chasen) or a small metal whisk.
- Froth or warm your almond milk. I love my Jura that I bought from Amazon, and I've heard good things about this less expensive Nespresso milk frother. If you don't use homemade almond milk, buy MALK or Califia almond milk. You can add the milk without frothing it, just warm it first (either in a pan on the stove or for 30 seconds in a microwave).
- Add the milk to the cup and stir in agave or honey to taste.
- Alternately, you can add the sifted matcha, hot water, milk and agave to a Vitamix and blend to combine on the hot "soup" setting. It makes for a frothy and delicious matcha latte.

Marsha,
I recently discovered Ripple sold at Whole Foods and Central Market. It is a dairy-free unsweetened Pea Milk
50% more calcium than milk and 32mg DHA Omega 3s. 70 Calories per 8oz cup, and 8grams of protein.
I like it better than almond milk. Check it out. Near the almond and cashew milk in the refrigerator section
Check it out! Sherri Wood

I need to check that out! The protein powder
I’ve been using recently is a pea protein and has a good mild flavor. I’m still a big fan of homemade almond milk though. 😀
