Best Fall Cookbooks 2020
Get ready to line your shelves with the best new cookbooks of 2020! There are beautiful new books coming your way, with inspiring recipes to keep you cooking and sated. Of course I snuck in a couple spring releases too because I couldn’t help it! Cookbooks are a work of art, and anyone who has ever been to a cooking class can tell you I have my fair share. Every fall I load up on new favorites, and this year will be no different. Enjoy.
Spring Releases Worth Noting
Vegetable Kingdom: The Abundant World of Vegan Recipes, by Bryant Terry. This came out February 11th and I’ve been cooking from it ever since. Vegan and full of interesting flavor combinations, I love the playlist Terry includes for cooking background music. Start with the peanut and collard green pesto — so good on grilled chicken!
Dreamy but Approachable
Dinner in French, My Recipes by Way of France, by New York Times food writer Melissa Clark. Clark breaks down the new French classics with recipes you’ll want to make all weekend long, French jazz optional.
A Table for Friends: The Art of Cooking for Two or Twenty, by Skye McAlpine. A visually stunning cookbook, this gives you an inside look into McAlpine’s lifestyle. McAlpine, based in London and Venice, brings British sensibility to Italian cuisine with recipes geared toward both small and large gatherings. The burrata with preserved lemons is dreamy!
Ottolenghi Flavor: A Cookbook, by Ixta Belfrage and Yotam Ottolenghi. I can’t wait for September 3 when my copy arrives! Flavor-forward, vegetable-based Mediterranean recipes are at the heart of Ottolenghi’s food. Lunch with my daughters at his London eatery is one of my all-time favorite travel memories.
For the NYC Lover
Break An Egg, The Broadway Cookbook, by Tara Theoharis. Coming out September 1, this cookbook celebrates Broadway with a collection of recipes inspired by your favorite musicals, from Oklahoma to Hamilton.
The Barbuto Cookbook, California-Italian Cooking from the Beloved West Village Restaurant, by Jonathan Waxman. A unique blend of rustic Italian and modern California cuisine. It’s like a trip to NYC in a book!
Health Conscious
The Primal Gourmet, It’s Not a Diet if it’s Delicious, by Ronny Joseph Lvovski and Melissa Hartwig Urban. 100+ gluten-free, grain-free, and dairy-free recipes from the author of the Cook Primal Gourmet blog, endorsed by Whole 30. The tomatillo beef soup sounds like exactly what I want to eat this fall.
Skinnytaste Meal Prep: Healthy Make-Ahead Meals and Freezer Recipes to Simplify Your Life: A Cookbook, Gina Homolka. Simple solutions for healthy freezer meals, ready-to-serve dishes, grab-and-go breakfast and lunches, and more.
Everyday Fresh: Meals in Minutes, by Donna Hay. From Australia’s most trusted food writer comes a stunning new book with super-fresh, super-fast recipes.
Because Everyone Loves Cookies
100 Cookies: The Baking Book for Every Kitchen with Classic Cookies, Novel Treats, Brownies, Bars and More, by Sarah Kieffer. I love Sarah’s Vanilla Bean Baking blog. I tested the first recipe in the book for soft chocolate chip cookies and they were simple and amazing (I did add a couple extra ounces of chocolate…). They are for sure my new go-to CCC recipe. Next up, the sesame cookies and the pretzel peanut butter bark!
