Weekly Wine Pick: Prosecco Superiore
Bubbles are always a good idea. Especially when those bubbles are Italian Prosecco Superiore from a small area at the heart of Prosecco production. And with summer about to swing into full gear, this is one of those bottles that should be locked and loaded for out-of-town weekends and pre-dinner aperitifs. It’s also perfect in an Aperol spritz. If you haven’t had one of those classic Italian aperitivos, I recommend you stir one up stat.
Crisp and refreshing, Prosecco Superiore is perfect on its own or paired with food. It may sound strange, but I love it paired with crispy fried chicken, grilled pizza with buffalo mozzarella or milky double cream cheeses. I’ve also been known to add a splash of Prosecco to berry salads to get the fruit to meld together. This particular bottle is sold at Trader Joe’s for $9.99 a bottle, which is an incredible value.
Prosecco Superiore is from the hills of Conegliano andValdobbiadene in Northeastern Italy. Brut in style, a tall glass of this sparkling wine is not sweet in the least. In fact, there’s only 69 calories in a glass (according to My Fitness Pal).
But who’s counting, Memorial Day weekend is almost here and it’s time to raise a glass to sunshine days, a looser schedule and a change in routine. Cin cin!
