Spicy Jalapeño Margaritas to Quench a Crowd
I love spring and summer entertaining, but I don’t want to spend my time behind the bar making cocktails to order. Enter big batch cocktails that can be stirred up and stashed in the fridge. There’s even a book on the subject. Infused jalaño margaritas just happen to be one of my favorite big batch libations!
These photos are courtesy of Courtney Barton and Harlow & May from an event at Kitchenette Farm, where I concocted a big batch version of this cocktail for a private dinner. The cute glasses are from Courtney’s shop, the pitcher is mine from Juliska and the green and white woven hand towels are from KD Weave.
My pitcher from Juliska is discontinued, but I also love to use this glass pitcher.
Courtney’s glasses, with glass cactuses in the base, are the cutest or you can use these outdoor margarita glasses. I also use my simple bodega water glasses for cocktails.
Are big batch jalapeno margaritas super spicy?
No! And you can regulate the amount of spice by infusing the tequila for less time. Taste the tequila after an hour or two and decide if it’s spicy enough, or you want more time. Just remove the jalapeños when the tequila is spicy enough for you.
How many people does a pitcher of margaritas serve?
A pitcher of margaritas will yield about 12 margaritas. But you can also do the math by dividing the ounces of alcohol by 2. Every cocktail has about 2 ounces of alcohol per serving. You can make these stretch even further by pouring half a glass of margarita and half a glass of sparkling water. Refreshing and more hydrating and your margs will last longer.
How long can you keep a pitcher of margaritas in the refrigerator?
The jalapenos will continue to infuse the tequila as these sit in the refrigerator, so just be warned that they get spicier over time. They will keep covered in the fridge for 2-3 days (if they don’t disappear by thirsty guests).
How long does jalapeño-infused tequila last?
If you make the jalapeño-infused tequila ahead of time, strain out the jalapeños after your tequila reaches the desired spiciness. Label your tequila because it will be clear and you don’t want to surprise anyone that’s sensitive to spice!
